(duplicated from an even less traveled place on the internet ;)
there’s no way a logical person could say that the Democrats won this election on issues - or should I say their issues. They backed into the win by hiding their leadership and not pushing their agenda. Bush and the Republican leadership blew this completely. Actually, they didn’t deserve to win due to the spending and spending that they’ve done over the years. If the Democrats really had majority support for their nut-brained ideas, they would have ran on an agenda like the Republicans did in ‘94. Remember the Contract with America? This was talked about prior to the election and it drove the election. What drove this one? The anti-war appeasers who would gladly turn over the free world like modern day Neville Chamberlains.
So now… the Democrat’s Trojan Horse of anti-war will bring liberal policy. Thankfully, Bush is still in office and if he can find it - will use the veto pen on each and every thing that shows up. Unfortunately, Bush is a closet liberal (aka, the best Democrat President since JFK) and will gladly sign illegal immigration, bloated healthcare and other liberal agenda items.
Here’s my local nut job - Carol Shea-Porter and her positions on the economy:
…Unfair tax advantages, deceptively packaged as “cuts,” have helped the richest one percent of the country, who now hold 40% of the wealth. The loss of this vital tax money (an estimated 48% of the deficit is caused by the Bush tax cuts)…
I’m sorry Carol-Shea-Porter, these tax cuts were not unfair. You see Carol-Shea-Porter the Bush tax cuts actually removed a lot of people from having to pay taxes. Who are these people? No, not the rich - they were the people at the edge of the tax system that no longer have to pay. Now back to your second point, there is no loss in tax money. Revenue has increased due to a growing economy that has been pushed ahead by the tax cuts. The Laffer Curve was proved correct again. We’ve got a long way to go in terms of tax cuts before we start to lose tax “revenue”. Now, if you want to talk fair tax policy - a flat tax of say 15% on all income is the fairest tax system that taxes income. At the same time, an income tax is wrong on the face of it and we should get rid of it and replace it with a consumption based tax.
Well, here’s to the start of the ‘08 election and time to bring on the real conservatives (and no that’s not the bible belt conservatives) to replace Bush and these nut job freshmen.
